Exporting packages as a ZIP archive or self-extracting executable

With version 4.1 of Packaging PowerBench, the option of exporting packages as a ZIP archive or as a self-extracting and installing executable file has been added.

Open the package to be exported and click on the "Export Package" button in the ribbon bar in the "Tasks" tab or select the menu item of the same name in the backstage view, which you can access via the "File" tab.

  • You will be welcomed by the export wizard, which will offer you the available export options. As the export to ZIP format is described in this section, click on the corresponding "Create a Zip archive" button.

  • If the package to be exported has more than one revision, you must first select the revision to be exported.

  • The wizard suggests a package name. You can also specify the directory and file name in which the generated archive file is to be stored. The file name is automatically determined from the package name. If the wizard detects that a file with the same name already exists in the target directory, the "Overwrite" checkbox is activated. You also have the option of automatically opening the export directory in Explorer after the export has been completed.

When exporting to a ZIP archive, you can also create a self-extracting executable. During execution, the package is then automatically unpacked into a temporary directory and the installation is started. If you want to do this, please check the box "Create archive as self-extracting Application". If the package performs actions for which administrative permissions are required, also activate the "Run as administrator" option. This will result in elevated rights being requested via the user account control when the executable is started

Note: You can configure the suggested export directory in the Options under Package settings > Default export path.

  • On the next page of the wizard you will see a summary of the settings you have made and you can start the actual export by pressing the "Finish" button.

  • After completion, you will see the actions performed by the wizard and - if activated in the previous step - the directory with the generated export file will open. This is only available to you for further actions.
