This section introduces the handling and the usage of the PowerShell Extensions for Ivanti DSM in a step by step approach. For logical reasons you should have access to an DSM 2014.1 (or higher) testing or training environment, so you can comprehend the given examples and try out the suggested exercises.
The examples shown here make use of the SOLYS example environment, that you might know from the DSM training courses. It is not mandatory to use the SOLYS environment, but be prepared to adapt the examples to fit into your actual environment. Items like server names, names of software packages and others might be affected by this.
You should have imported some users and computers from your Active Directory into the DSMDB. Additionally we suggest you create some software packages and release already a few of them. Also the DSM 2022.2 client should be rolled out to a computer acting as a test client. Some of the software packages should be assigned to or already installed on the test computer (or a group of which the test computer is a member of). Preparing the testing environment in such a manner ensures the existence of policies, policy instances and status information in the DSMDB. As a last step you should configure the Patch Management service and import a patch catalog.
To provide an overview we summarize the SOLYS example environment:
