What is the licensing scheme of the PSX7?
Question: What is the licensing scheme of the PowerShell Extensions for Ivanti DSM? Are there different types of licenses available?
Answer: As any product in the DSM portfolio, the PowerShell Extensions for Ivanti DSM are licensed on a per client base. Of particular relevance is the number of clients (or computer objects) in the DSM 2022.2 environment you want to connect to, not the number of computers you install the PSX7 on.
This licensing scheme was chosen because one wants to manage the computers in the DSMDB and not the computers this software is installed on. Usually these sets of computers are disjunct.
To discover the maximum count of clients your license is valid for, open the license file named "nwcservices.blsadministration.dll.lic" with a text editor. You find the license file in the installation directory of the PowerShell Extensions. The attribute "LicenseCount" specifies the maximum number of clients your license is valid for. This attribute contains the word "Unlimited", if you purchased a so called "Enterprise license" which doesn't restrict the usage to any client count.
If the number of clients in the DSMDB exceeds the number specified in the attribute "MaximumClientCount", an error message is thrown. In such a case do not hesitate to contact us. We are pleased to point out a license upgrade path anytime.
